Shopping Online = $$ for Peace

If you plan to shop online with Amazon, or other retailers such as Barnes and Noble, Lands End, eBay, JCPenney,  QVC, Office Depot, Expedia, Home Depot, HSN, Best Buy, Drs. Foster and Smith, Gap, Buy.com, Nordstrom , and more !-- and you want to donate money to The Peace Alliance , you can go online to The Peace Alliance Website first!

At the top of the page are peace-related gift ideas and vendor. Scroll down to find a search field that goes directly to Amazon.com. To the right of that is a link to iGive, where you can sign up and shop online at all of the other retailers. In both cases, a portion of your purchase will be donated to The Peace Alliance -- up to 26%! It doesn't cost you any more -- in fact, in iGive, you might find some additional coupons to get you even better deals.

So some of the money you are spending on gifts anyway, will be donated to peace! What's better than that?

In Memoriam: Rob Atkinson

December 2, 1986 - December 4, 2008

The Peace Alliance and Student Peace Alliance community was stunned and deeply saddened to hear of the loss of SPA Legislative Director, Rob Atkinson, son of California Co-state Coordinators John and Jan Atkinson. Everyone who met Rob knew what a unique and talented young man he was. Jan, John and the rest of his family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

As the holiday season is upon us, we find ourselves reaching out to those close to us, reminding ourselves of all that we're grateful for, and feeling a little introspective. The world is ever-changing, ever-evolving, and in this country we are seeing much change in process as the new administration begins to make assignments and solidify plans. Take a breath now and again throughout the season, and envision peace. Make it real in your mind. Remember to be peaceful in your interactions with strangers, friends and family. One of the biggest actions we can take as volunteer activists for peace is to model the behavior that is peace embodied.

Important:
- RSVP for the Holiday Open House -- join us on December 13th!
- Write a postcard to President-elect Obama
- Go to Change.org and register your vote to make peace tops on the priority list
- Save money and register before 12/31 for the March conference in Washington DC

May your holidays be warm and full of light, love and peace.

VOTE NOW and let President-Elect Obama know that we want a U.S. Department of Peace

There's a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential campaign who are now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama Administration should change America. It's called "Ideas for Change in America."

Quickly vote for the idea: Appoint Secretary of Peace in Department of Peace and Non-Violence. You can read and vote for the idea by clicking on the following link:
Click on the right side where it says Ideas for Change in America - Vote Now!

The top 10 ideas are going to be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day. Each idea has a real chance at becoming policy.

Send a Postcard

From November 5, 2008 to January 20, 2009 (Inauguration Day) we're collcting postcards from our local communities to send to President-Elect Barack Obama encouraging him to make violence reduction and prevention a national priority and to increase funding for effective violence prevention. It's quick, easy and fun to do!

Oregon Students Move City Council to Adopt Resolution!

The West Linn City Council pitched its support toward the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence Monday, becoming the fourth city in Oregon to join a national grassroots political movement.

West Linn High School seniors Lucas Pinelli, Kirk Larson and Chelsea Callas presented the idea to city councilors at a regular meeting Monday. The three 17-year-olds had already briefed the council on their proposed resolution at a work session in October.

"With your vote in favor of this resolution, West Linn can set an example and join Portland, Corvallis and Lincoln City in this grassroots movement that will effectively diagnose and treat domestic violence in this country," Pinelli said, standing before the city council.

FAQs from the desk of State co-leads Terry Mason and Tory Haslinger

Q: What's a Peace Partner, and how do I become one?

A: A Peace Partner is one who has decided to donate a regular monthly or quarterly amount to The Peace Alliance to support the efforts for the campaign. No great social achievement -- from women's suffrage to civil rights -- has succeeded without the support of citizens willing to fund the dream into action. Even just $20 a month can make a big difference. Instead of going to a movie one night a month, stay in and play games -- and donate that money to Peace! $84 a month -- about the same as the cost of a daily latte -- makes the donor a Guarantee fund member, dedicating $1000 a year to peace. Invite others to join you, and become a FUNdraiser -- raising funds for peace can be fun!

Please consider becoming a Peace Partner today. We have much work to do, and the new administration may provide an opening. We must be prepared and organized, and financial support is critical at this exciting time. To donate, go to
